This is a short recap of what happened in the books. To refresh people or to catch a few up to what is currently going on!
Kylar Stern was born as a Warren rat named Azoth. He fought for survival, but before he got out, his two best friends paid the price. Jarl was taken and raped by Rat, the Big that was in charge of them in their guild. Rat was ruthless, and when Azoth stood up to him, he took it out on those closest to the boy.
Azoth begged the best wetboy in the city, Durzo Blint, to take him as his apprentice. Azoth wanted out, but Durzo made him a dirty deal. Kill Rat, or live and die in the Warrens. It took the mutilation of Azoth's perhaps first love, Doll Girl, at the hands of Rat, to push him into killing the boy. Once done, he never saw Doll Girl again, and became a wetboy apprentice.
As time went on, Durzo gave the boy a new name, Kylar Stern. Kylar trained and learned under Durzo, but was incapable of using his immense Talent for some reason. The Sa'kage pushed Kylar into entering a tournament under the name Kage, or shadow, and that was where he found out from a Green maja (Healer) that he lacked a conduit. It was then that Durzo told him of the Ka'kari, but left out that the man, Durzo, already had one.
In this time, Kylar found his old friends Doll Girl and Jarl again. Doll Girl's name was Elene, her foster parents had given her a name and loved her, even though her face was scarred and disfigured. Kylar fell in love with her from afar, keeping his promise to Durzo as well as he could.
Time went on, and Kylar was resigned to the fact that he would never be anything but an Assassin because you cannot be a wetboy without Talent. It wasn't until in the attempt to steal a jewel that was thought to be the Silver Ka'kari, that Kylar stole his Master's own Ka'kari. The Black abandoned Durzo as a shell of a man and bonded to Kylar. The Silver, turned out to be a fake.
In finding the fake Silver, Kylar saw much happen, a prince murdered by someone else, and being accused of it himself. Not long after the death of the prince, Kylar's friend Logan was forced into a political marriage with Jenine Gunder, the King's daughter. It made Logan Gyre next in line for the throne, until the Khalidorians invaded that very night.
Many died, and Kylar saved many himself, using the Black and his new powers, including Talent, to kill Vurdmeisters and hundreds of Highlander swordsmen. It was when he saved Elene and a little girl from the dungeons of the castle, called the Maw, that he attacked the Throne Room. There he found many meisters and Vurdmeisters, along with Highlanders and one man who looked very familiar. It was Rat, and he claimed to be a son of the Godking invading Cenaria.
Kylar killed Rat, but died himself. This was his first trip to that mysterious room after death. It was foggy, and two doors were on either side of a throne where a yellow eyed man sat. This was the Wolf, and he gave Kylar a choice. One door would bring him back to life, and the other would send him to the afterlife. He chose to be brought back to life.
After he revived, he set out to kill his Master, who had helped the invasion. The battle ended with Durzo smiling in death and Kylar burying his Master.
Come second book, Kylar and Elene take Momma K's and Durzo's daughter in to raise and flee Cenaria which is occupied by the Godking and Khalidor. Kylar however could not give up his wetboy ways like Elene wanted him to. So every night he went out with his sword, left to him by Durzo, Retribution. He killed the wicked in Waeddryn, always feeling guilty for not talking about it with Elene, whom he loved.
Meanwhile, back in Cenaria, the Godking killed thousands, a rebellion was growing outside of Cenaria. Jarl, now the leader of the Sa'Kage, comes to convince Kylar to kill the Godking, and then is killed right after Kylar agrees. It comes down to Kylar killing the Godking with the help of the woman that killed Jarl, Vi, another wetboy. They succeed, but Kylar loses an arm and another life, coming back immediately to kill the Godking and save the Cenarians who are dying in the Battle of Pavvil's Grove.
Logan, who should be the King, gives that up to help rally people for said battle, and saves them all when the ferali turns out to be made from someone he knew, and he orders her to kill the Khalidorians instead. Kylar has made a deal with the Wolf for his arm back, and goes to Durzo's grave before leaving. He finds a note from Durzo himself. Durzo is alive, but not only that, he said don't make deals with the Wolf, a little too late.
The last installment starts with Ceurans tricking Logan's troops into following them by looking like Khalidorians. This leads them all to Ezra's Wood, and Kylar has Curoch right where he wants it. He takes it from the Ceuran leader and tosses it into the Wood, getting his arm back.
Events are slowly set in motion to make Logan king, which Kylar gives up another life for. He then goes to the Chantry and meets up with Durzo along the way, staying near the Chantry for months as Logan gets up an army to go to Khalidor and destroy them all. In the last battle, Kylar kills the Titan that was raised from under Black Barrow, and then, even though he must kill Elene to do so, he kills Khali, the source of all Vir.
In the end, Logan is named High King, and the world becomes peaceful once more. Kylar is left alone, but has Vi for company, forming a bond with her, and Durzo slinks off to go be with Momma K. With Jenine at his side, Logan starts to build his kingdom.
